On 6th and 7th March 2023, some educational meetings were held with the students of the State Comprehensive Institute of “Giuseppe Giusti” (Secondary School in Marina di Campo - 2°B, 3°A e 3°B), of the Comprehensive Institute of Portoferraio “Giovanni Pascoli” (Secondary School - 3°A, 3°B and Monoennio) and of the State Institute of Higher Education "Raffaello Foresi" (High School in Portoferraio – 4°A). The topic of the lessons was the “Effects of climate change on hydrological processes and water resources sustainability for Pianosa Island (Tuscan Archipelago), an example for the Mediterranean Region”. During the lectures, the discussed issues concerned the ongoing climate changes and how they affect the hydrological cycle and groundwater resources especially in small islands and more specifically for the Pianosa Island. The project of HYDRO-ISLAND (UNESCO Project) has been also introduced indicating the main activities carried out on the island as part of this project. At the end of the lessons, the students participated in an educational game involving a series of questions about the topics discussed during the lessons. The winners of the game received hats with the Pianosa Logo.
Previously the lesson days, the students filled out a specific questionnaire to assess their prior base knowledge on the topics covered. Similar questionnaires will be then handed back to the students to assess the knowledge gained during the lessons.
The next meeting will be by the end of March and the start of April 2023 on Pianosa Island, where the students could visit the water section of the Geological and Archeological Sciences Meuseum, observe the main components of the hydrological monitoring network, performe measurements at wells, sampling water and knowing the indirect methods of investigation by DRONE.
