IGAG-CNR studies the processes of fluids leakage along the Elba ridge

Since the second half of September 2021, the BRP has hosted the IGAG-CNR research group, with scientific director Dr. Daniele Casalbore, whose project aims to study fluid leakage processes along the Elba ridge, particularly aimed at the geological-environmental characterization of mud volcanoes recognized off the Scoglio D'Africa, affected by a violent gas eruption in 2017.

The study was initially undertaken for Civil Protection goals, being the CNR-IGAG a Competence Center for marine geo-hazards and it has since the beginning established a collaboration with the Department of Earth Sciences of Sapienza in Rome and with the Hydrographic Department of Italian Navy.

The research project and the oceanographic campaign are funded by University Projects of the Sapienza University of Rome and also include a part of tutorial training for students of the Sapienza Marine Geology class .

Participating in the research campaign: Daniele Casalbore (Ricercatore Sapienza, CNR-IGAG), Martina Pierdomenico (Ricercatore CNR-IAS), Daniele Spatola (Assegnista Sapienza), Alessia Conti (Assegnista Sapienza), Stanley Beaubien o Stefano Graziani (Tecnico Sapienza), Simone Napoli (Studente Sapienza), Diego Marinelli (Studente Sapienza), Paolo De Santis (Studente Sapienza), Ludovica Rosati (Studente Sapienza), Noemi Migliore (Studente Sapienza), Francesco Latino Chiocci o Sabina Bigi (Professore Sapienza, Associato CNR-IGAG).
